A Marian medal detailed on both sides
The front depicts the Virgin Mary standing with open arms and her hands turned towards the world. She is surrounded by the French invocation: “Ô Marie conçue sans péché, priez pour nous qui avons recours à vous”.
On the reverse, a cross rises above the letter M, symbolising Mary united with Christ. The design is encircled by twelve stars, traditionally associated with the twelve Apostles and the Church. Below are the Sacred Heart of Jesus, encircled by thorns, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, pierced by a sword. Together, these hearts evoke love, self-giving and faithfulness through trials.
The origin of the Miraculous Medal
This medal was inspired by the Marian apparitions experienced by Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830 at Rue du Bac in Paris. Now one of the best-known Catholic religious medals, it expresses trust, hope and devotion through prayer.
