Saint Hubert and the stag: a life-changing encounter

Saint Hubert was Bishop of Tongeren-Maastricht. Especially venerated in Belgium and the Ardennes, he is traditionally recognised as the patron saint of hunters, foresters and people who live close to nature.

According to tradition, Hubert was a nobleman with a passion for hunting. During a hunt, he is said to have encountered a stag carrying a luminous cross between its antlers. This vision led him to reconsider his life and devote himself to faith and the service of others.

The stag therefore symbolises the call to conversion and the ability to choose a new direction. The hunting clothes and horn recall Hubert’s past, while his reflective posture expresses his inner transformation.

The scene also encourages reflection on the relationship between people and nature. It evokes responsibility, moderation and respect for animals and the living world.

Thanks to its impressive 40 cm size, this statue is ideal for a chapel, church, family oratory, large niche, hunting room or lodge. At home, it can become the centrepiece of a prayer area or an interior inspired by the Ardennes.
