A completely new approach to the interpretation of the Carmina Burana by La Reverdie. With this new recording, La Reverdie explores the well-known manuscript collection of the Carmina Burana. The manuscript comprises a series of texts, mostly in Latin, compiled between the 12th and early 13th centuries, at the request of an anonymous abbot of the "Kloster Neustift" in southern Tyrol. These refined songs have already been the subject of numerous recordings. This recording focuses on love poems and especially moralizing poems, partly because of the topicality of their messages. Performed at the time in universities and ecclesiastical circles throughout Europe, they are a kind of highly refined clerical entertainment, not lacking in irony or tender nostalgia. La Reverdie conceived the program as a kind of remembrance of things past, recreated with enchanting music and tasty texts from one of the most famous medieval manuscripts. The interpretation has a new approach, which aims to highlight the subtleties of the text and music, rather than the crude and banal aspects of the repertoire. The selected pieces are part of a narrative journey, which intensifies the originality of the project. The album includes world premieres (tracks 6, 9, 15 and 18): a contemporary melody is assigned to four poems that are not set to music in the manuscript, in accordance with the practice of contrafactum. The recording thus brings to life texts that are normally silent in the manuscript. The booklet includes explanations in French, as well as the translation of the Latin texts.
