A citadel of praise and prayer, the Saint-Pierre de Solesmes Abbey, built entirely of granite, is impressive from the Sarthe River which it overlooks. As you enter the nave of the church, you are struck by the profound meditation of the place. Is it due to the stones and the vaults which keep in memory the secular heritage of the Gregorian melodies.

For a thousand years, a Benedictine community has been peacefully living the monastic vows according to the Rule of Saint Benedict. Even today, time still passes here, punctuated by prayer, work and study. Such a contemplative vocation, for which the buildings were designed, requires above all a climate of silence and peace.

This is why the Rule of the Months imposes a fence that is only crossed in exceptional cases...
