Let's climb Mount Royal with Holy Brother André

Alfred Bessette was born on August 9, 1845 in Saint-Grégoire-d'Iberville, the eighth of twelve children. In 1870, he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross. At the age of 30, thanks to his great faith in the intercession of St. Joseph, a succession of miraculous healings occurred through him. The construction of the basilica adjacent to the original small oratory of St. Joseph was begun in 1924 and completed on March 19, 1955. Brother André died in the odour of sanctity on January 6, 1937 in Montreal, at the age of 91. He was declared Venerable, then Blessed, by Pope John Paul II in 1978 and 1982, respectively, and finally canonized on October 17, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. The date of the feast of Saint Brother André is January 6. The body of the saint rests in the crypt of Saint Joseph's Basilica of Mount Royal in Montreal.
